From 27.03. - 31.03.2023, the first workshop of the EU joint project SELINA, coordinated at PhyGeo, took place in Sofia, Bulgaria.

A total of 140 participants (about 40 of them virtual) took part and developed strategies under the theme "Seeds of Change: Understanding barriers, enabling factors and decision makers' needs triggering transformative change" on how SELINA can contribute to societal change towards a more sustainable approach to nature. Besides the project partners from all EU 27+4 countries, representatives of the European Commission as well as national and regional stakeholders were invited. The theoretical work was rounded off with a practical demonstration of urban heat island detection by drone, a visit to the Botanical Garden and an excursion to the Vitosha Mountains near the city. The next workshop will take place in Madrid in October and will focus on scientific methods for assessing ecosystems and their services.
