As every year, the practical part of the study project "Landscape System Analysis Northern Finland" in the Master Landscape Science took place in the boreal and subarctic regions of Northern Europe.

The extensive field work was carried out this year with the highest number ever of 27 students from the ERASMUS partner Universities Leibniz Universität Hannover (LUH), University of Eastern Finland Joensuu/Finland (UEF) and University of Life Sciences Tartu/Estonia (EMU) under the supervision of Benjamin Burkhard, Alexander Störmer and Simone Ott (all PhyGeo/LUH), Timo Kumpula and Franziska Wolff (both UEF) as well as Miguel Villoslada and Thaisa Bergamo (both EMU).

The applied landscape ecological field methods used included UAV (drone) remote sensing with different systems, Terrestrial Laser Scanning (TLS), GNSS satellite positioning, land use and vegetation mapping, ecosystem service assessments, and peatland surveys with a chamber drill in Finland and Norway. The collected data will be analysed by the participating students in the second part of the study project in the winter semester 2023/24.
